SPIDER BRIAN RIG
- 2017
This is a project I recently finished. I designed, built, rigged, animated, and lit it all as a first time rigging project. The face of the spider is set up with blendshapes, and the body is operated with a rig that includes a lot of spring solver IKs. The Audio is from a D&D Podcast called the Adventure Zone.
Modeling and rigging was done in Maya. Lighting and rendering done in Houdini. Final image sequence compiled in Adobe Premiere.
This video show off just the blend shape face. I created this rig in Maya, using the blend shape tool. I animated the head alone first as a preliminary test.
I wanted to make sure the design i had chosen for the spider would achieve the look and expression i wanted.

I was inspired especially by the pretty cute face of the common european house spider and interesting abdomen of the ravine trapdoor spider. I did several sketches and eventually decided on this design.
