- the Making of a Still Life - 2016

Early plans for my still life I knew what objects I wanted included but I was still experimenting with composition.

I used rough geo to help inform my decisions in this phase.

Once I felt like I had a good plan I created the full models of the objects I needed.
I used Maya to create this new final geo.

I was able to imprt the models from Maya o Houdini in oder to sart working on materials, shaders and lighting.

I prefer to do all my final polish in Houdini.
The environmental lighting alone makes it worthwhile in my opinion, and the node network is wonderful to work with.

The shaders I created are partially created in Houdini with details and personal touches added using texture maps pained in Mari.

I loved the birdcage but as I approached my deadline I realized I wouldn't have the time to get the level of detail I wanted and made the sad decision to remove it and move forward with a revised composition.

With my new composition and completed textures my still life is close to being completed.
It was important to me to create lighting that would show of the beautiful variety of metals, especially the kettle.

After completing the lighting I took the rendered image into Photoshop where I was able to fine tune the colors and add in the color wash background.
